Dodgers Softball Club is a family friendly club that welcomes players of all ages and abilities. We field teams from the T-Ball 'Dodgers Minis' through to a premier men's team. In between are the 'rookie league' under 13 teams, 'junior league' under 15 teams, and the 'senior reserve' teams.
If you have a child who has played T-Ball at school and now wants to play softball they can enter the mixed gender 'rookie league' or single gender 'little league'. Thess grades are for kids between 10 and 13, and are also suitable for children who didn't play T-Ball but want to give softball a go. The focus is on learning skills and having fun playing sport. In the 'little league' the kids have the chance to travel to other parts of Otago and Southland to play in mini-tournaments.
For those that are moving up from under 13 teams there is 'junior league', which is an under 15 grade. For kids who have learned throwing and catching skills it is still possible to start playing softball at this age. For the keen players there are boys and girls under 15 Otago teams to try out for who play in South Island tournaments.
If you want to play serious softball but either don't have the time, or (being honest with yourself), the skills for the premier team, you can play in 'reserve grade'. Reserve players who are able and willing are allowed to play up in the premier grade as well, which helps younger players build up extra experience to make that next step.
Dodgers Softball Club have worked hard to create a fun atmosphere where kids enjoy playing sport. We have had club days where all the kids get together and noisely support the premier team. We've also been working to bring the different ages together so everyone can learn from other club players and get to know them.
As well as players Dodgers also welcomes people who want to coach or do club duty umpiring. There is plenty of support available for new coaches or umpires and we'll make sure you won't be left hanging.
Thanks for checking out Dodgers Softball Club. If you want to play or coach we hope you'll give us a call and come along to one of our practice sessions and try us out.
Registration Day for the 2009/2010 season is on Saturday 19 September, 2009 from 10am to 1pm at Ellis Park. Please contact Jacinta on 4737834 if you can not make registration. |
