HVL Round 3 Draw - CLICK HERE

2010 VNZ CLUB NATIONALS

North Harbour Raiders Volleyball Club took 3 confident teams down to Napier last week to compete in NZ's elite Indoor Volleyball Tournament. For the first time the womens team qualified for Honours Division and were set to play in a tough pool which included defending champs Manukau South A & contenders NZIS. With a new format being introduced next year it was crucial for the women to finish at least 3rd in the pool to qualify for next years Honours Div. Unfortunately it came down to a points countback and North Harbour narrowly missed out ending up 8th overall out of 12 teams. The girls are very happy with their performance and will be looking to make a bigger impact next year.
The Mens A team made it confidently through to the finals against Sparta A held at 5pm on Saturday 28th of August at Pettigrew-Green Arena, Napier. With a large crowd and huge support for North Harbour the boys came back from losing the first set to win the next two sets and be up 23-22 in the 4th. NZ setter Sam Frankham had some harsh calls made against him during the match and after making a timely dump over the net was called for a carried ball. Once disputes were made Sparta were awarded an extra point for a yellow card to North Harbour to lead them 24-23 in the 4th. The boys weren't able to pull back and ended up losing the 5th set 15-8. The boys were undoubtly unimpressed with the decisions made during the match and were disapointed to walk away 2nd after the amount of effort put in throughout the year. WELL DONE TO EVERYONE WHO WENT DOWN AS PART OF THE NORTH HARBOUR CREW. IT WAS A VERY SUCCESSFUL TOURNAMENT OVERALL AND NORTH HARBOUR DEFINATELY WON IN SUPPORT AND OVERALL PRESENCE.

Final North Harbour Results

Mens A - 2nd Honours Div.
Mens B - 3rd Premier Div.
Womens A - 8th Honours Div.

CONGRATULATIONS to Rhys Van Stipriaan (Libero) who was awarded Best Defender in the Star 6 of the Tournament.

BIG ups to all those who made the tournament flow so smoothly and a big THANK YOU to Hawkes Bay Volleyball for hosting the event. For all tournament results, info and daily reviews please visit the VNZ website or CLICK HERE
