The 2010 bowling season has raced ahead and we now see ourselves only two weeks out from the 61st NZ Indoor Bowls Championships being held in Taupo commencing 12th June. I wish all our fellow bowlers participating in the championships all the best and as they say “go get ‘em”.
The teams have been announced to compete in the annual Northern versus Southern Zone Academy and Masters Events to be held during the Nationals and I wish to congratulate Debbie Reed & Alex Reed for making the Academy team along with Sharon Hook as Reserve and Henry Pratt & Bernard Bennett for making the Masters team. I wish them well and invite fellow bowlers to come along and watch this event being held on 15th June.
Locally, we have had a busy few months with numerous events taking place including the early open singles events, representative fixtures, interclub and championships. Congratulations must go to everyone who has participated, not just the winners, as without you the members, these events would not take place. Although entries have been slightly down on last year, the level of competition has been high and enjoyment has been had by all involved. Special mention goes to Carla Owen, who at aged 13, has her first Association title after being part of the Tauranga Mixed Fours winning team. Keith Setter, Fiona Wilson, Ben Thurston and Carla, go on to represent Tauranga at the NZ Mixed Fours Zone Final being held in Whakatane on 3rd July.
