The Sir Peter Blake Torbay Regatta is the largest centreboard regatta in New Zealand, with more than 400 sailors involved it is also the largest two day sailing regatta. 2009 is a significant year for us as we introduce a new logo, and look to position the event as a premium national event .
Now in its eighth year, this annual event consists of youth and senior dinghy classes, sailed off Waiake beach, Torbay as well as keel boats racing off the East Coast Bays. Last years event attracted over 400 sailors and their families, competing in 17 different classes. Competitors hailed from all over New Zealand, as well as a few overseas entrants. Approximately 2,500 people are likely to attend the regatta, including competitors, supporters and families. The Mayor of North Shore City traditionally opens the event.
Good Water, Good Life The regatta maintains a youth focus and the Sir Peter Blake Trust supports the event to encourage participants to learn about the environment. Presentations take place at both yacht clubs over the weekend, with the most outstanding sailor at the event receiving the prestigious Sir Peter Blake Memorial Trophy.
