Each year Manawatu enters teams in the Senior Div 3 and Div 5 sections of the North Island Badminton NZ Teams Competition.
A Seniors team has a minimum of 4 women and 4 men. A Tie consists of 4 womens singles matches, 4 mens singles matches, 2 womens doubles matches, 2 mens doubles matches and 4 mixed doubles matches: a total of 16 matches. Each match is the best of 3 games to 21 points with extension.
A major change has been made to the 2010 competition for Div 3. Instead of 2 zones of 6 teams each with play-offs, the competitions now has 9 teams playing as one group which gives a total of 4 weekends with 2 teams played each weekend. The group winner plays the South Island winner for the NZ title and for promotion to the New Zealand- wide Division 2 (Slazenger Cup). Relegation is the fate of the team finishing in 9th position.
