This was a fitting climax to the x/c season for Sue,
after the second GP Sue ran in the Oceania Masters T&F Champs in Tahiti winning both the 800/1500m age race's setting big pb's in the process.

Auckland's x/c Championships which included the final round of the Grand Prix series took place last Saturday 18th at Pukekohe showground's in very heavy  underfoot conditions. Bay's runner Michael Craig o/45 finished in 4th place and in the overall standing of the GP series finished in 3rd place.
Sue Parcell o/40 was running strongly when at half way picked up stitch which slowed her down, but in spite of this Sue still finished in 2nd place and was 2nd overall in the series. Carolyn Smith o/45 had a good strong run in the testing conditions and finished in 3rd place.
Congratulations to Sue for being included in the Auckland x/c team for the Nationals Champs being held in Waikanae on 7th August - Go Sue !

Manukau Sports ground was the venue for the 3rd GP Auckland cross country  series, on a cold blustery day, luckily the rain held off for most of the masters races.  In the 10k race, new member Michael Craig 0/45 continued his fine seasons form to finish in 5th place.
In the ladies 6k race, a close battle took place between two Bays runners, Sue Parcell 0/40 and Carolyn Smith 0/45 with Carolyn just having the edge over the last 1000m. Both athletes finished in 2nd place in their respective age groups.
After three races both Sue & Carolyn are in 2nd place overall in their a/g.

The 4th round of x/c  races are at Long Bay on Saturday 26th June the masters ladies starting at 3.10 & the Masters men at 3.30pm.
Racing starts at 2.20 with girls/boys grade 8, so if you have never been to a x/c meeting, now's a good chance to see some fine racing.

Winter training is now well underway for the T&F athletes and fine warm weather has been a bonus for the long sessions at Auckland Domain, Cornwall Park and The Trusts with grass runs and hills and more hills ! - still this is a good base for the 2010/11 season.

Last Sunday was the 3rd and final round of Auckland Masters Top Team competition and again a strong team of 15 Bay's athletes turned out for the meeting.  With a commanding lead after the two previous rounds Bay's once again produced excellent performances during the match and went on to comfortable win by the end.
Over the three matches 24 individule Bay's masters athletes took part in this competition which must rank as good if not better than at senior matches, and goes to show the growing interest in masters athletics.
The final league table [top three positions]

Bays Masters' Sprint Coach gains a silver medal

Tony Deleiros the Bay's masters sprint coach was in good form at the 4th World Masters T&F Championships held in Kamloop, British Colombia, Canada from 1st to 6th March 2010.
The meeting was held in a new indoor facility in Kamloops which attracted over 1500 athletes from all over the world. The indoor track was a level 200m 6 lane with a 8 lane 60m straight, this track being diffent from the Euopean indoor banked tracks.
In Tony's first event the 60m he was third in his semi final [8.56] and in the final after a very poor start ran home 6th [8.72]
In the 200/400m races only the winner of the three s/f and the next three fastest times went though to the 6 lane final. Tony won his 200m s/f and had the fastest overall qualifying time of 28.01.
During his warm-up for the final his achilles was playing up and at one stage was unsure if he would be able to run, However being a major final he lined up and came home with a silver medal in a time of 27.79, against the winning time of 27.37.
In 400m indoor events athletes stay in lanes for 160m, they then break to an inside lane. Although Tony has run many 400m outdoors this was his first experience of an indoor 400m and also had not run a 400m race for over 4 years due to knee operations.
Tony won his s/f with ease, winning by over 20 meters. In the final he was drawn lane 5, at the breaking zone all the athletes were level, Tony gained the upper hand and after some pushing from behind he was leading at the bell, going down the back straight with a 3 meter lead from the chasing athletes, when with just 80m to go his achilles/soleus decided to pack up and pulled up as if being shot in the leg, The race over !
The race was won by the German athlete  who was in second place at the time Tony pulled out.
An eventful, well run championships and enjoyable Yes - No,  had come to an end.
