A bit of History

Napier City Guards (seniors) was originally started a number of years ago as a family based team, as are most teams.

In the season of 2006/07 the team had all but disappeared when Marline Ellison, after coaching U16s for a number of years, started up a Kiwi grade team. With Marlina Wilkins, ex U16 team member aged 18yrs approx, as co-coach and along with Christina Dimock, also ex U16 team member aged 161/2 yrs, as shadow coach, the wee team looked really good at local events and competitions.

Christina took over the reins of the Kiwis in the season of 2007/08 as sole coach at the age of 17 1/2yrs. The team took on a new look with the black & cream plaid skirts and black jackets. The following season the team took the big step and went up to the U12 Grade, sidestepping the Fernz grade, and along with returning to the original team colours of Pink, Black and Sliver the team marched their little harts out. The girls, and to Christina's credit, did very well at N.Z. Nationals in 2009, their 1st season as a competitive team.

2009/2010 saw us get 3rd Display in the Bowl Grade, Girls done very well and improved imensley. Team wore black and silver uniforms proudly and enjoyed this season.

2010-2011 sees the team re-building again with the loss of a few girls. But also addition of some more. Team will be stepping out proudly again this season aiming to do the best that they can.
