Hampden Skyline Mountain Bike Ride and Walk/Run

The Hampden Skyline recreational mountain bike ride offers something for riders of all abilities, from first timers to experienced riders. You can choose to ride 7, 15 or 25 km. All rides start and finish in the picturesque coastal hamlet of Hampden, less than an hour's drive from Dunedin and 25 minutes from Oamaru.

The Pugh Pedal Push is a 7km family fun ride which climbs gradually up a shingle road (100m total climb) to a vantage point overlooking rolling farmland, with wonderful views of the coast.  A gentle descent across farm paddocks leading to a shingle road returns you to Hampden. Those new to mountain biking, and primary school children, will really feel they have accomplished something by completing this circuit .

The Hampden Skyline Ride (15km or 25km) starts along the same shingle road and climbs to the "Airstrip" (390m above sea level), where there are spectacular views over rolling hills and the Pacific Ocean.  An optional further 5km on a good 4wd track leads to the road end at the Razorback telecommunications tower, 570m above sea level, where there are panoramic views of eastern Otago. The return trip from the Airstrip is an exhilarating 10km run on a fast 4wd track, then through farmland, and back to Hampden.

All finishers are eligible for the many spot prizes.
