Bush Sports Park and Stadium Pahiatua
Bush Sports Park and Stadium Pahiatua opened in April 2004. The vision was for a Multisport facility that all local sports clubs would join. Since the completion of the Hockey Turf in March 2007 and the Turf Pavilion in April 2011 this dream has been realised. Twelve clubs are affiliated to the Bush Multisport Trust, who administer the Park. These are Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Cricket, Harriers, Hockey, Netball, Rugby, Soccer, Squash, Tennis and Touch
The Park is home to events such as the Bush Harriers 1/2 Marathon, Christmas in the Park, The Bush Primary Chess Tournament, The Tararua 7-a-side Tournament, Stars in Your Eyes, Pahiatua Shears and the Wellington to Auckland cycle challenge. The Park also facilitates two Pilates classes, an Aerobics class and a Zumba class each week and is home to the Pahiatua Training and Fitness Club Gym.
$50,000.00 Drainage Project Approved The Tararua District Council recently approved a recommendation from Community Assets Manager Colin Veale to spend $50,000.00 rectifying the drainage problems at Bush Sports Park in Pahiatua.
The Bush Multisport Trust who administer Bush Sports Park has struggled over the winter sports season to faciliate all sports codes due to the extremely wet playing fields. This was especially evident on the Junior Football field behind the stadium that eventually had to be closed permanently. This area will recieve a completely new drainage system. The work is considered a high priority and the plan is to have the drainage completed before the 2012 winter sports season.
Turf Pavilion Completed
The new Turf Pavilion at Bush Sports Park was opened on Sunday 29th May 2011 by Fonterra Social Club representatives Mike Mullins and Rodney Wright. The first floor of the pavilion was the Fonterra Social Clubrooms that they donated to the Bush Multisport Trust for the purpose of a pavilion at the turf.
Girl Guides, Brownies and Pippins have relocated to their new home on the ground floor of the pavilion and Dance and Pilates classes have commenced in the upstairs lounge. Bush Primary Netball have also been making the most of the new pavilion, running a canteen from the kitchen with hot drinks for parents and supporters.
