The Tapanui Bowling Club was formed in 1904 with a four rink bowling green in Forest Street and a subscription of one guinea. Dr Robertson was the first President, A. G. C. Miller secretary and O. P. Bastings, treasurer. In 1923 the current full size green was built in Northumberland Street and until 1933 played against South Otago Clubs at which time the club affiliated with the Eastern Southland Bowling Centre. The ladies section was formed in 1924 and Mrs John Black elected as the first ladies President.
