Welcome to the home website of the Whangarei Amateur Swimming Club - we are one of the largest swimming clubs in Northland, and offer a great pathway for young swimmers from learn to swim right through to elite national swimmers.

Based at the Whangarei Aquatic Centre, the club has its own clubrooms poolside, which the Elite and Junior Squads use prior to trainings for land-based exercises.

WASC NZ Junior Qualifiers
The qualifying period for the 2012 NZ Junior Champs is now up, and the club is very pleased to announce that ten swimmers have qualified to represent the club (and Northland)  at the championships in Hamilton on 18-19 February.

The following swimmers will be competing at NZ's premier championships for swimmers 12 year and under:
Ellie Eastwood - 10 events
Callum Prime - 8 events
Samantha Bailey - 6 events
Laura Martin - 5 events
Ariel Kelman - 3 events
Nikkayla Kelman - 3 events
Hayley Donovan - 3 events
Josh Nilson - 2 events
Courtney Matich - 1 event
Kennedy Boswell-Smith - 1 event

The team of 10 is easily the biggest from WASC for a great number of years and is evidence of the work the committee has put in to provide a competitive swimming pathway within the club. It is also the biggest preresentation out of all Northland clubs.

A special congratulations to Ariel and Kennedy
who have qualified for the first time. Kennedy left it especially late, qualifying in the last possible carnival, but she is there now and is looking forward to her first big national championships.

WASCies Do It Again!
26 WASC swimmers did the club proud at the 2012 Northland Age Group Champs in Dargaville.

In a fantastic display of all round swimming, our squad members brought home 35 gold, 34 silver and 29 bronze medals (as well as 2 relay medals). This total of 100 medals almost doubled last year's haul of 57 medals at the same championships (and we had exactly the same number of swimmers!).

In a show of real depth, the club had the best PB rate of all the major Northland clubs with 63%, and a heap more national qualifying swims were recorded.

Thanks to Our Sponsors
The Whangarei Swimming Club would like to express gratitude to our sponsors who supported us to put on such a successful Spring Carnival recently.

A really big thank you to MERCURY ENERGY who have come onboard as the naming rights sponsor of the club's two carnivals in 2011 - its great to have their support, especially as their colours are very similar to ours!

Also thanks to local companies DONOVAN GROUP, NORTHLAND WASTE and FLETCHER EASY STEEL, who sponsor the club.

And last but not least, we also salute our lane sponsors - DIVE HQ, CARTRIDGE WORLD WHANGAREI, MATICH TRANSPORT, OMAK MEATS, MIZONE and A'FARE - who have also been very supportive.

Without all our sponsors we would not be able to put on such a successful carnival, so please support them wherever and whenever possible.
