Sport is one of the five cornerstones of Hereworth life.
At a time when the importance of sport is often downplayed by many schools, Hereworth takes great pride in offering and coaching all the major New Zealand sports.
School teams of all ages are fielded, both against other Preparatory schools and in events and competitions in the local area.
Boys have gained regional representative honours in rugby, football, soccer, hockey, cricket, tennis, athletics, cross-country and swimming.
In addition to the abundant grounds, there are 4 all-weather tennis courts (which double as an artificial hockey turf during winter), swimming pool, cricket, rugby, basketball, football and volleyball facilities. An indoor gymnasium complements the outdoor pursuits.
Hereworth comprises 23 acres of grounds boasting many facilities including swimming pool, all weather tennis courts, manicured playing fields, cricket nets and a natural woodland area.
To have such a wealth of facilities spread over a small roll of students, Hereworth School is truly blessed to be able to offer aspiring young sportsmen, unrivalled opportunities, to develop a wide range of sporting skills.
Where else would you expect to find so many facilities, in-house, at one school for primary school-aged boys in New Zealand?
The School believes that fitness and physical well being are vital to a full education. All boys are required to participate in sport... with an emphasis on fairness, co-operation and camaraderie, through the various activities. There are a diverse range of sports available at Hereworth from traditional codes such as rugby to volleyball. All major sports are coached by teachers. Private lessons by visiting coaches are available in tennis and swimming.
