The Marist Women had their first game yesterday versus the Saints. Marist got off to a bit of a rough start fielding, making a few mistakes and letting some Saints runners reach home - allowing the Saints to gain the lead. When Marist got in to bat, they were a bit rusty, but a big hit and some disciplined running got one runner home. By mid game the Saints had a substantial lead - their five runs to Marist's one. At this point the Marist girls rallied themselves and started making things count. They caught up to Saints, matching their runs with six all. Then the final bat came - Marist needed to score just two runs to win. A massive hit from one of the girls got two runners home, and Marist went home with the win. Final score: 8-6 to Marist Women.
Saturday, November 9, 2013:
The Marist Women had a great game against the Pumas. With the new American additions to the Marist team, they managed to clean up against the opposition. The new pitcher had great speed and good accuracy, making it difficult for the Pumas to counter with their batting. Only one Pumas player managed to make it safely to home plate in the game. With the Marist girls backing up their pitcher and catcher, their fielding was solid. The Marist batting was good and the girls made the most out of their opportunities to run the bases. Final score: 15-1 to Marist Women.
Saturday, November 16, 2013:
The Marist Women got off to a good fielding start against Flaxmere Manawahine, not letting any runners slip through to home. Then Manawahine followed with their fielding and managed the same feat. It was then that things started to get interesting. Manawahine started to score runs and Marist had to try and match them - both teams kept on a pretty even keel throughout the game. The last innings became a tie breaker - it was crunch time for both teams - and unfortunately Marist didn't manage to take advantage of the opportunities they had to take the outs and make the plays, resulting in their first loss of the season. Final score: 10-9 to Flaxmere Manawahine.
Saturday, November 23, 2013:
The Marist Women played Taradale, starting off with fielding. Marist did a superb job shutting down any chance of Taradale scoring - with the pitcher dominating the plays. It came to batting and Marist comfortably sent some runners home, gaining the lead. The remainder of the innings played out very similarly, with Taradale struggling with the speed of the Marist pitches, and Marist slogging a few big hits out into the outfield, including one player making a home run. Final score: 15-0 to Marist Women.
Saturday, November 30, 2013:
The Marist Women played the Dodgers B grade team. Marist got off to an okay start, however the Dodgers managed to take advantage of any opportunity they could and gained four runs early on the in the game. Marist managed to get one runner home on their first bat. Marist began to struggle with shutting down the Dodgers base running, and the Dodgers continued to get more runners home. Partway through Marist lost one of their players due an injury and struggled through the rest of the game with eight players. Final score: 10-1 to the Dodgers.
