Returning for the season on Saturday the 26th of January!
Saturday, January 26, 2013:
No game today, postponed until a later date.
Saturday, February 2, 2013:
The Women struggled throughout their game against Flaxmere ManaWahine and unfortunately there were some mistakes made when given the opportunity to get opposing players out. The score was 13-4 to ManaWahine. Hopefully the women will manage to get in the swing of things for the next game.
Saturday, February 16, 2013:
The Women's team played the Pumas and it was a great improvement on the last game with the girls playing some good softball. The girls managed to keep the pressure on the Pumas throughout most of the game and shut down their batting fairly quickly. Later on in the game it was apparent that the girls were getting a bit tired and hot and were letting a couple of runs through, but ultimately they came out with a win of 6-4.
Saturday, February 23, 2013:
A fantastic win for the Women's team against the Saints, with a score of 20-2. A couple of home runs were scored and overall the level of play by the girls was great. There was some particularly good base running, and some great back-up fielding. Altogether a great game.
Saturday, March 16th, 2013:
The Women had a loss against Flaxmere, the score being 6-5. Unfortunately some of the Marist Women struggled against the Flaxmere pitcher and therefore had a hard time getting on base, which made it difficult to get ahead in runs. Flaxmere took the opportunity to steal bases where possible and take advantage of the Marist Women's fielding errors. A few of the Marist women had some big hits which allowed them to take a few bases, but unfortunately it wasn't enough to win the game. It was a close game, but will allow the girls some time to reflect.
Saturday, March 23, 2013:
The Women played against Flaxmere ManaWahine with a bit of a rocky start. Marist was down 4-0 and were making errors on what could have been simple outs. But following the first innings Marist picked up their game and started to make a killing. Stealing bases where possible, paired with some decent, safe hits allowed the women to dominate the game. Marist's pitcher and catcher started to shut out ManaWahine's batting completely, collecting some strike outs, and the pitcher even fielding a ball herself to throw into base one for the out. It was a fantastic win for Marist, with the score reaching 18-6. Fantastic girls!
The Marist Women have now collected two wins, topping the tables in both the pre-Christmas competition and the post-Christmas competition. It is something that the women can be very proud of! The girls received two fantastic trophies for their wins. It is hoped that they continue their winning streak on to next season! The Women would like to thank Ken Harris and Dianne De Latour for all their efforts, coaching and support throughout the many seasons they have been with the team, they have been amazing!
