Onga-Tiko Rugby Club have a colts team which plays in the Under 21 grade of the HBRFU. As part of the clubs vision “to foster and nuture rugby in the Hawkes Bay” we adopted the school boys team made up of players from Onga-Onga school and Tikokino school last season. These young boys were kitted out in the club colours.
We are a successful club although small, due to the support of our sponsors, regular supporters, good working committee and last but not least the players that provide us with their loyalty and good running rugby each week. Majority of these boys are not local and travel home from Smedley farming school each weekend but stay back during the rugby season. This shows the commitment that these boys have to the club. In turn the committee work hard to make the season a comfortable and friendly atmosphere for the team.
Our coaches each year have a real challenge as we do not retain the same team from season to season due to the Smedley cadets moving on after a 2 year period at Smedley farming school.
We look after our own grounds and are proud that the top NZ referee’s have told us that our ground is the best prepared and good to play on. These preparations are done by a small committed team who ensures that the ground is ready for each home game.
