|Tai Whakahau team on the golden sands of sunny Kaiteriteri Bay - Motueka, South Island, Nov 2010.|
A race that everyone should compete in at least once. The organisers - Motueka Waka Ama Club, have some wonderful members whose camaraderie and thankfulness is really sincere. It was great to hear from one of the major sponsors who have supported the club since their first marathon was held 10 years ago.
Tai Tonga have had teams attend a few times over the 10 years and this year a senior womens team competed in the Master womens division, which won first place and a lovely stone waka taonga held in the photo by Anne (Whanganui based). On her right is Charmaine who was presented with a basket of gifts from different local businesses by the Motueka Club for attending their first marathon as a W1 paddler. Raewyn (Porirua based) is the only other team member to previously compete in Kaiteriteri, winning a National Marathon W2 event. The other 3 members Daisy and Carol in the green - who both have never done marathons ever before, and Deanna (Gisborne/Wellington based) who has not done marathons for a few years all thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
If your looking for January weather in November go to Kaiteriteri and while your their race in the Waka te Tasman event...........see you all next year!
Tai Tonga 41 OCC will be back.
