The Auckland University Boat Club (AUBC) represents the University of Auckland at rowing. Each year the Club attends the New Zealand University Rowing Championships and the Northern Tertiary Challenge.
Rowing began at the University in 1927, and the Boat Club continues this tradition. The Club has a proud history of promoting rowing excellence for both men and women, and for athletes ranging from beginners to national representatives. The Club has the distinction of winning the first ever women’s race at a New Zealand National Championships in 1967, and today can claim current New Zealand rowers Mahe Drysdale and Michael Arms as former members.
The Boat Club had a stellar season in 2010-2011. The Club sent 45 athletes to the 2011 University Rowing Championships at Lake Karapiro, coming third overall and picking up 11 medals. Reflecting these results, the Boat Club was named AUSA Supreme Club of the Year and Sports Club of the Year for 2010.
